As you sit at your desk, scratching your head and wondering how we got into December already, perhaps we can tell you something that will brighten your day. Do you realize that we're just over a month away from the return of Lost? We know! We can't believe it either! Though we're a little scared about what our DVR is going to do once January hits (with all the shows on our radar, "melting" seems to be the most likely outcome), the idea that we'll have a bunch of new Lost theories to obsess over endlessly with our friends makes us extremely happy.
In what can only be described as an early Christmas present, ABC has already given us a chance to get a jumpstart on all that obsessing with a just released clip from the season premiere. The two-minute sequence features Kate, Baby Aaron (now looking suspiciously like a toddler) and a couple of nefarious looking "lawyers" who want to get blood samples from Kate and Aaron to determine their relationship at the behest of a mysterious "client". Needless to say, the clip ends with Kate packing a suitcase (and a gun) and leaving her home with Todder Aaron in tow. If this sounds vaguely familiar it's because a bit of it was featured in the promo for season five. Still, that doesn't mean we can't dissect what it all means! Here are three theories.
Theory #1: The mysterious client is The State!
We know Lost is a television show that contains smoke monsters, time travel and a massive Island that moves around, defying the laws of physics. But! The most absurd aspect yet was that no one questioned Kate's claim that Baby Aaron was her child. Isn't it possible that no one believed Kate's ridiculous "I was pregnant when Flight 815 went down" story? The girl had a stomach you could bounce quarters off at the time of the crash! Perhaps the district attorney's office is just doing their job.
Theory #2: The mysterious client is Charles Widmore!
Honestly, we don't even remember if Charles Widmore is Dharma or his own independent being, but either way that dude is as bad as a rotten apple. We'd rule him out here because it seems highly unlikely he'd need to determine the parentage of Aaron; doesn't he already know that Claire was preggers?
Theory #3: The mysterious client is Ben!
From the looks of the extended promo, the crux of the early part of season five is going to be Ben trying to convince The Oceanic Six to head back to the Island with him. Clearly this is going to cause problems... everyone hates Ben. The guess here is that Kate says she won't go and Ben comes up with a scheme to get her on the run so she'll have no choice but return with the rest of them. That's so Ben!
We'll find out the real reason when Lost returns on January 21st.
