Obama's N.Y. Fund-Raisers Turn Down V.I.P.s
The Barack Obama fund-raisers in New York have to turn away contributors--and possibly their money!--because there are too many who want a high-priced ticket to the photo reception at his Grand Hyatt event tomorrow.
"We really hate to turn money away – especially this much - but we don’t have a choice," says an email forwarded to me from an Obama fund-raiser, who told me it is being circulated among the event's hosts.
And poor Hillary is in a cash crunch.
Geez, what a farce when something like this counts for news. If a campaign books too small a room, is that a sign of success? Or a failure in attention to detail and logistics?

cpk, I think the situation is less about the size of the room and more about Obama having time to pose for photographs with that many people. It's not that they can't come to the event at all, it's that they can't be accommodated at the photo reception. Makes sense to me.
Sounds more like a time problem than a space problem. When the bandwagon gets going..all the big guys&gals want to be on it.

Can someone please tell me what people see in this guy? His views are way left, he doesn't support the military, he's soft on terror, he doesn't support the war, he wants to raise taxes, he wants open borders and he's part of a church that is run by an admitted racist.

I'd say about the only good thing about Obama is that he IS against the [undeclared, unconstitutional] war! I went to the guy's website so I'll know what I'm talking about when I bash him the rest of the year (I'm a Libertarian - not a Republican). I don't think there is a single aspect of American life he doesn't want to stick his fingers into. His website reads like an old Soviet Six Year Plan. Why not let him set quotas for shoes, soap and butter and be done with it! These idiot politicians (both sides) seem to think they can run the economy like a Soviet Tsar. And all you cretins out there think it will work!

I still have yet to hear any of you Democrats explain to me how 99% of Obama's Wish List of tampering with the U.S. economy is not in DIRECT violation of Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution. Not to mention the 9th and 10th Amendments. Look it up, you bunch of microcephalics.
Obama represents a fresh start for America; an America where red and blue states can become the United States of America again; an America where those from the left and those from the right can find common ground in the middle. America needs an agent of hope and Barack Obama is that person. We've been divided for far too long in this country and it's time to start coming back together. It seems that there is some agreement in Iowa in New Hamphire about this sentiment, and perhaps nation-wide as well. We shall see. Clinton would be just as divisive as Bush has been and we don't need 4 or 8 more years of that. Just my 2 cents.

Freddy, do you not watch the news; did you not see that in Iowa, Obama drew from independents (who went largely to Bush in the last two elections) and some moderate Republicans. So, yes, I think he can unite some of that 50.5% with some of the 49.5% on the other side. Worth a shot, isn't it? As for being a panderer to the Palestinians, you are talking out of your rear-end, unless you belive that unless people always side with Israel that they are panderers to Palestine; if that's the case, you're a lost cause; no one is always right, even Israel.
Blogoholic, you couldn't be more wrong; I'm a moderate Democrat and even I know that the Repubs will have an easier time with Hillary than with Obama. Heck, half the Democrates don't want Hillary to win. Trust me, if she is the candidate, I'll be voting Republican or Independent. She would be so poor a choice for this country right now.
Obama will need every cent he can get, once the Republicans get their hands on him (assuming this media coronation continues and he becomes hte nominee). The Clintons are hamstrung from raising all the dirt with drugs, women, shady friends, finances, and all the rest; the press won't raise any of it becausse it interferes with the media crowning the nominee. That leaves the Republicans to do it, and they will do it quite well.
Obama will face the Clinton attack machine now. Its the end of her legacy and what is worse in his eyes- Bill's legacy.

Obama can unite the country again? Wow - you've been reading too many fairy tales. The country will ALWAYS be divided: between the people who think Big Government can cure any problem by taxing and spending more and controlling your lives more, and those of us who understand the concepts of peace, freedom and fair trade. Big Government represents FORCE and COERCION. Period.
Never mind that every problem we are "divided" about was caused by the Federal Government in the first place (the war, inflation, poorly educated students, etc, etc).
These people will NEVER get it. FDR started us down the road and it has been DECADES of failure after failure of Big Government. See the Postal Service? THAT is your federal government. The 3000 other departments may have different names on the door, but they are as bad or worse at "solving problems".
The Republicans are just as guilty. George Bush has a daddy who gave him everything, and who has overseen more Big Government growth than Clinton before him (free prescription drugs, anyone?). It's just that the money he has looted went to the military and the bankers, while the Democrats prefer to give my stolen tax dollars to unions and the "poor".
And while we are on the topic - I have to laugh about those of you who think there are "poor" in this country. Try a visit to the big cities of Peru, Costa Rica or Cuba. THAT is real poverty. Ninety-five percent of the "poor" we supposedly help here have cars, air conditioning, cable TV, big screens and washers and dryers.
Forced redistribution of wealth solves nothing. It kills the work ethic. It is immoral, evil and bad economic policy.
Actually Matt, all of those countries you named were Communist. Different from Socialism, which in almost every country where it is enacted has a considerably higher quality of life than the States (Scandinavia, anyone?).
From what I've read of Obama, it seems he wants to improve the standard of living for everyone. Maybe the rich will be taxed more to get these things...as they should be!

And for everyone who keeps touting the US as the greatest country in the world, how about you take an international poll and see how that view stands up? And if you don't want to do that, why don't you just open your eyes a bit and see how this country really is?
I feel sorry for those 20th century right wingers being so tied to the past with reference to failed states like Cuba and North Korea. 20th century Socialism died in 1989. It is no longer an issue. We do need to check rampant income disparity before we end up with repeats of the French and/or Russian revolutions, 1789 and 1917 respectively. THAT would bring back socialism (21st century version) in a big way. Government is a necessary evil and it is meant to save us from ourselves with intelligent legislation designed to push us in the direction of a just and honest society. Right now we are going in the opposite direction. None of the candidates are "left wing" and none of them are pushing for government control of the economy or our lives. Thank God.
