Obama Supporter Indicted, Impact Unclear

Ordinarily, the indictment of the governor of Puerto Rico on charges of campaign finance violations wouldn't be too noteworthy on the mainland. However, it's worth pointing out that Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila, who was charged with 19 counts (including conspiring to violate U.S. campaign finance laws and giving false testimony to the F.B.I.) after a probe of his 2000 campaign for Puerto Rico's non-voting seat in the U.S. House, is Barack Obama's top supporter on the island, where the June 1 primary could play—for the first time since 1984—a significant role in the Democratic nominating race. Fifty-five delegates will be at stake in the primary, in which Hillary Clinton—thanks to the lopsided advantage she's shown among Hispanic voters elsewhere—is expected to fare well.

One possible mitigating factor: The governor's claim that the investigation and indictment are politically motivated "has support in Puerto Rico," the AP reports.

If Obama gets the nod at the convention, it will be a funny few months to November. The Republicans will unleash the stream of things that Obamabots tend to want to ignore like this story. I'm sure the media will ignore all these things too, just like they seem to be ignoring this. Obamamedia still holds true and does the disservice to the American people as they have become known for this election year.

All Democrats are corrupt. Look at New York. I think it's a travesty that the two best people the Democrats could come up with are Obama and Hillary.

Christ, where are all the governnors this cycle???

to scooter thomas i say this:
all democrats are corrupt? ALL DEMOCRATS? every single one? really? wow, thanks for the enlightening, sweeping generalization. it's much more clear to me now. indeed, i'm certain there are some corrupt politicians who happen to be democrats. no argument there. but let's be fair when we make such sweeping generalizations. let's look at the republicans also.

george bush has sent troops to die in iraq for a lie (weapons of mass destruction.)

the bush administration outed a cia operative in order to defend its iraq policy, and in result, commuted scooter libby's sentence for his supposed wrong doing in the case.

george bush's energy policy was partially shaped by a man (ken lay) who helped swindle countless millions from hard-working folks who now have no retirement funds, then lied about his knowing mr. lay.

the bush administration has illegally imprisoned, tortured and denied legal rights to countless innocent people in the name of the war on terror.

mr. bush used his supporters to "swift-boat" a true american hero (john kerry) in the last election cycle, spreading lies to ensure his re-election.

mr. bush's vice-president told someone to f**k off on the floor of the senate several years ago.

mr. bush has managed to squander in 7.5 years the surplus left by a democratic president, part of a deficit that took 35 years to eliminate.

need i go on?

when we use words like "corrupt" to describe politicians, let's be sure that we apply the term equally to all.
