Orthodox Organizations Host Most Mayoral Candidates

This Sunday, likely mayoral candidates Bill Thompson and Anthony Weiner are among those expected to deliver remarks at a breakfast organized by the West Side Community of Orthodox Jewish Organizations.

Notably absent from the invitation is Christine Quinn, another likely mayoral candidate who does, after all, represent parts of the West Side.

The March 30 event is taking place at the New York Historical Society, and will also include remarks from Representative Jerry Nadler and a tribute to Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.

A portion of the event’s invitation is appears here.

This is one of those "stationary-only" Jewish organizations. This west side coojo does nothing for the community. It is a vanity organization for a guy named Mikee Landau who was described in the Forward newspaper as being paid by diplomats from foreign countries to lobby Jewish organizations because he sells them on the perception that Jews have all this power to help them. His big claim to fame is that he has clout with the local precinct, which he gets by taking the local police brass to basketball and hockey games (a definite no-no). It is a shame that elected officials do not vet these invitations to weed out the fakers.
Even though I live on the West Side, I am going to the COOJO from Flatbush event this Sunday for the real deal.

Please don't forget about a REAL Jewish organization also having a breakfast on the same day, the Flatbush COJO. Real programs, real people.

Evan (not verified) says:

Oh why don't they just rename it Jew York City and get it over with already!

Esti at The Jewish Press (not verified) says:

I called Ezra Friedlander whose firm is producing the breakfast to inquire if an invite was sent to the Speaker's office. He confirmed that an invite was sent to the scheduler saying "sometimes in the multitudes of stuff sent over things get lost, I'm sure it was just an oversight and we look forward to her participation".

Hyman Roth (not verified) says:

Actually in the 1950's, Jews numbered 2 million in NYC; that was one out of every four people was Jewish! Since then, numbers have deteriorated as they fled to the suburbs. The only Jewish growth going on in the city comes from immigrant Jewish groups, like Syrian, and other hardcore orthodox families.

Quinn has a big fan base among Orthodox Jews - me among them.

She's smart, tough, articulate & fair.
