Paterson and Bloomberg on Obama's Speech About Race

Here's a video The Observer's Azi Paybarah shot yesterday of David Paterson and Michael Bloomberg's press conference, where a reporter asked them what they thought of Barack Obama's speech on race.

Paterson praised the speech, saying, "He talked about the different avenues of society that become frustrated."

Bloomberg, who deferred to Paterson at first, said, "I think it’s an issue that he has to address, I thought he should have done it earlier, I’m glad he did and let’s get on with it."

THE DARK SIDE OF OBAMA’S PASTOR WRIGHT

OLD PASTOR WRIGHT,
THOUGHT HIMSELF BRIGHT!
BUT GOT IT ALL WRONG,
AND GOT HIMSELF LONG!

NEW YORK TIMES SPIN,
IT STINKS LIKE SIN!
SPEWS OUT HATE,
AND YOU TAKE THE BAIT!

SO SORRY,
END OF STORY!

The Gold Dust Twins have spoken with their silence. Sorry Obama, the preacher will be in play come November.

it is a sad commentary on the american public that we allow a decent, honest man to be vilified.

one of mcains endorsers have called the catholic church a 'whore' and 'a cult', while another states that this country was founded by peoples whose main purpose was to defeeat the muslim faith.

Zach (not verified) says:

All we want is this "decent, honest man" to repudiate the preacher he watched for 20 years. That's all. Anything other than that would be dissembling on Obama's part.

To think that the Rev. Dr. Wright is anything other than a patriot and a lover of America is delusional and racist. Stop displaying your ignorance about the role of the White church and the Black church in our history and politics. Right-wing evangelicals have been calling both the Roman Catholic Church and the US the whore of Babylon for over a century in 10,000 churches in America every Sunday morning. Your hypocrisy and refusal to renounce American terrorism in the form of lynching and our home-grown Al Kaida, the KKK, is reverberating in its silence. BTW, I am a middle-aged white middle-class superpatriotic American so none of your ignorant flames.

Gaylord Assblaster (not verified) says:

Actually, most white, evangelical churches call the US the shining city on the hill, and the smiter of muslims and heathens everywhere, the best friend to Israel and her enemies, the last hope for Christians in a godless world. If they put down Americans, it is only select groups who are going to hell, not the whole country, you "white middle-class superpatriotic" snapperhead.

Josiah Rowe (not verified) says:

Fortunately, most Americans recognize that Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama are two different people, and Wright's views do not reflect Obama's. (See for data.)

Obama's repudiated the offensive statements, but not the man, because he knows that the Wright seen on YouTube is not the whole picture. Don't you have anybody you love who's said offensive things before? Have you cut off all contact with them? I doubt it.
