Paterson: There Was an 'Out of Control' Element in State Police

Here’s a little more from David Paterson’s appearance this morning on WFAN. Towards the end of the 30-minute interview, Paterson admits that part of the reason he admitted to having an extramarital affair was because he was “afraid" the state police might leak information about it.

The remark came while Paterson was discussing how helpful Republican Joe Bruno has been on the state budget. One of the hosts said, jokingly, that Bruno now shouldn’t have to worry about the state troopers following him -- referring to a complaint Bruno made months ago that is now being investigated by the attorney general’s office.

In response, Paterson said:

“I’ll tell you something, that was very serious problem and it’s being investigated right now. And I don’t want to go into too much detail about it right now, but I will say this. That was also on my mind when I made my personal revelations. There was obviously an element in the police force, and it wasn’t Republican or Democrat, it was just out-of-control people who had power that were clearly monitoring a lot of the elected officials and I was kind of afraid of leaks of inaccurate information about myself, and that was another thing that pushed me to speak.”

The full interview can be heard on the WFAN web site.
