Dinowitz Says He Didn't Start Fight at Bronx Democratic Meeting
Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz called to dispute City Councilwoman Maria Baez’s account of what happened last night at a meeting of the Bronx County Democratic Party.
Baez, who supports Jose Rivera, told me she saw Dinowitz "fighting" with some attendees.
As Dinowitz tells it, he walked into a conflict that had already started between supporters loyal to Rivera—who Dinowitz says were trying to remove sign-in sheets recording who was eligible to vote—and supporters of Assemblyman Carl Heastie, who's trying to unseat Rivera. (And may have succeeded, depending on what the court says.)
Then the usually mild-mannered Dinowitz took a (figurative!) shot at his accuser.
“I’m amazed, considering her attendance record, that you found her at City Hall,” Dinowitz said.
Baez recently faced criticism for have the worst attendance record in the City Council.
I am so appalled at what occurred last night. Jeff you acted like a complete animal, attacking a young man and taking a book that did no belong to you. So it is fair for me to call you a thief. You took that book and it remains in your position. And if it can get any worse, your action towards another elected official was disgraceful. For you to turn to another elected official, a female at that and call her, a piece of shit and a bitch was some of the most disgusting behavior imaginable. I am ashamed that you represent and entire community with those words and actions and even worse you acted that way on the eve of holiday. You should be ashamed of yourself and you should resign from any office or leadership position you hold. You do not represent the attitude this city, state and county need and deserve in these trying times.
I agree with the previous comment. Jeff Dinowitz has been known to be hot tempered towards woman. Especially latin Woman. I heard that in Denver he had called Councilwoman Diana Reina and Councilwoman Mellissa Mark Viverito Street Trash. Now apparently he called another female Elected Official an expletive that I choose not to repeat. Either he has something against woman or against Latin woman or both. I think it is amazing that in todays world bigotry and sexism still exist.

Jeff Dinowitz... for a guy who is so smart he is even more stupid. This individual should not be representing the people of Fieldston and Riverdale for that matter. Oliver Koppell should run for his seat.. I would even support Jaiman Sewell for Dinowitz's seat. I think Dinowitz is a symbol of the status quo in Riverdale-- keep all people of color out of Riverdale and keep it in the hands of the majority--- that is not right... Jaiman Sewell is a true leader.. I think he would make a great assemblyman or councilman whatever the lord blesses him to do. Jaiman is just the type of person we need-- an inclusive leader-- I think Jaiman would work well with all my Jewish, Puerto Rican, Latino, African American, Asian, and White brothers and sisters.

I was at the meeting and Councilwoman Baez is lying. Assemblyman Dinowitz (along with a young aide) was attacked by Jose Rivera henchman. As newspapers reported, his glasses were knocked off in the scuffle for the registration books. We are lucky to have Dinowitz in the Bronx, and he was brave to stand up to the corrupt Rivera. I support Jamin Sewell too, and hope he is able to unseat Councilman Koppell. The shady Koppell is apparently both for and against unseating Rivera. He stood on the stage with the nepotistic Boss Rivera and accepted fake post in the fake election, and then remained on the stage when the real election was conducted, to help with that. He wants to keep his bread buttered on both sides. This is the same guy, by the way, who bravely introduced legislation to extend his term by four years so that he can’t be unseated. Lucky us.
were you actually in Denver? remember when you were a kid and you played telephone? what you hear and repeat does not ever resemble what was originally said. Jeff referred to the members of the City Council as "street name changers."
