Recchia Hopes for More Bloomberg, Coney Island Development
Christine Quinn has adamantly denied speaking to the mayor or her colleagues about whether or not the City Council would approve a change to the term-limits law, and it looks like most members are set to do that.
So who was talking to the Council? Councilman Domenic Recchia, for one.
"Yes I did, OK? Did I talk to them about it? Yes I did," he said, referring to other members. Recchia, in a telephone interview yesterday, also denied having direct conversations with Bloomberg about term limits, although Recchia is not hiding how he feels about the whole thing.
"I’m very happy the mayor is going to stay and, hopefully, get re-elected," he said. Recchia said his own extensive, but unfinished work on the rezoning of Coney Island is one reason he'd like to see four more years of Bloomberg.
"What happens if the next person doesn’t pick up on the rezoning process?" he asked. "What happens if the new mayor goes in and wants to do something different?"
As for voters, he said, "If they’re unhappy, they can vote him [Bloomberg] out, vote me out."
