Power, Six Months Ago, on the Burden of Being Hillary Clinton
In the wake of Samantha Power's resignation from the Obama campaign today for calling Hillary Clinton a "monster," it's worth noting that, in an appearance on Charlie Rose on October 16, 2007, Power addressed what she said was the "unfair" but irrefutable fact that a lot of people harbored "bitterness" towards the former first lady and her husband.
Here's a partial transcript :
SAMANTHA POWER: What I'm saying is, that I think Hillary Clinton would be a great president. I think Obama would be a better president, or I wouldn`t be working for Obama. The second thing I'm saying, is her negatives are obvious. The same polls that have her streaks ahead in the national polls also have something like 47 percent of unfavorable rating.
CHARLIE ROSE: Why do you think that is?
SAMANTHA POWER: Well, I have only met her once, and I find her very, very affable and actually very intellectually curious and not ideological. But for some reason, the combination of the baggage of the Clinton years, the health care fiasco, and the effectiveness of the right in taking aim, and some of the perhaps the reactions, you know, by - by both the president and the first lady at that time, has left her -- and I think unfortunately -- but carrying the burden of those years, carrying the burden of that number of people, who, you know, they hated President Clinton, too. You know, the rest of the world loves President Clinton. Most of the country these days, you know, is very nostalgic for President Clinton. But there`s some sector, you know, that just carries that bitterness.
And I think it`s unfair. I mean, I think it really is unfair, but it exists, and my worry would be if she gets the nomination, that it would be hard for her to appeal to independents and appeal to Republicans.
She`d say, she`s had success working across the aisle in the Senate. I mean, you cannot say that she`s been polarizing in the Senate. But the perception in the country, I think, is that - is that, you know, is that she`s not the uniter that Obama is. And Obama`s challenge is how does he get known in time, you know, nationwide, and as I said, our approach is to just go state by state by state. And you see the states he is spending time in, he is opening up the race.

Of course, that was before last week's Clinton Machine-influenced/staged NAFTA-gate traffic accident before the OH Primary (not to be confused with the tears before NH, or race-baiting in SC, or...). The Clinton Campaign contacted the Conservative Canadian government and told them what was then FALSELY reported by that very same Government to their "Press" to leak MISINFORMATION -- that a representative of the Obama Campaign did. Simultaneously, Hillary Clinton KNOWING this, leveraged this "opportunity" to indict Barack Obama with irresponsible communications with that same Conservative Government. After the OH and TX Primaries, that same Government has "apologized" and their "Press" has quietly published a "correctilon" assigning the real Clinton operative scenario -- Friday. Not to be left out, Republican/Conservative John McCain ALSO jumped on the bandwagon to pile on Barack Obama w/BASELESS assertions -- without solid knowledge (or maybe Hillary told him?). Hillary, not to be outdone, proffered John McCain and SHE had the foreign policy "credentials" that Barack Obama didn't -- and the BASELESS Clinton-led aforementioned scenario was what SHE/John McCain put forth as their example, to the Nation and voters in OH and TX.
Today, Hillary Clinton continues to function as if the Clinton-Canadian Government scenario/setup -- is TRUE -- and is tagging Samantha Powers' interview and off-the-record comments with the same brush.
To date, neither John McCain (totally clueless) or Hillary Clinton have apologized for THEIR complicity in the aforementioned, and are leveraging it together.
Perhaps we should reconsider Ms. Powers' assertion -- circa this week. Perhaps Ms. Powers' opinions have changed, as have MANY Americans since last week, watching the spectacle and spectre of the Hillary Clinton/John McCain show.
Release the tax returns, Clinton Library donor records and White House Records -- and stop with the Machiavellian/Rovian games, machinations and wasting OUR time, Hillary. What is the SOURCE and CONNECTION between these records and the source of your newfound WEALTH?
America has already had 30 years of THIS kind of "leadership" commoditizing our interests domestically and abroad. When a foreign Nation can interfere with our Nominating Process WITH Candidates colluding, it is time to turn the page.

This is absolute rubbish as the Canadian government has confirmed they were *not* contacted by the Clinton campaign. Kindly don't make the mistake of thinking that the rest of us don't read news reports or can't use Google. By trying to foist off untruths you do your candidate no favors. Then again, Obama played fast and loose with the facts on his NAFTA debacle, didn't he?

There were many journalists who heard Ian Brodie- the Prime Ministers chef aide- state clearly that the Clintons had told them that NAFTA renegotiations were to be taken with "a grain
of salt". That the government has now denied this does not make it false.
Why not chose a woman AND an African-American? Why not choose someone normal for a change? Somone who does not kow-tow to the Jews or to the bankers? Someone who simply does not give a shit who gets offended? Someone who actually voted against bombing Afghanistan? Cynthia McKinney!
