Dem Electeds React to Bloomberg's G.O.P. Donation
Yesterday I got the chance to ask a number of Democratic elected officials about the $500,000 Michael Bloomberg quietly donated to the Republican Senate campaign committee recently.
Their reactions, which I gathered at the Riverdale Jewish Community Council legislative breakfast, seemed to be collective shrug of the shoulders (and in some cases, a touch of promotion for the party).
City Comptroller Bill Thompson: “I think I was a little surprised, but then again, Mike has been very supportive of the Republican Party on the state level before, and has had a good working relationship with Joe Bruno. A little surprised, but it wasn’t a huge surprise. He’s been a strong contributor and supporter before, of him [Bruno] and it was kind of a continuation. Mike still has to get things done in New York State and I think that was indicative that he still has a good working relationship with Joe Bruno.”
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn: “Mayor Bloomberg has long supported lots of different candidates in all different parties. This doesn’t seem like any change from anything Mayor Bloomberg has done throughout his whole life. Certainly not at all different from what he’s done since he became the mayor."
State Senator Jeff Klein, co-chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee: “I guess he [Bloomberg] feels that the Republicans were good for the city. I just think Democrats in the majority will be much better for the city of New York, and for the state, because we’ll have a regional approach.”
Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz: "Republicans aren’t good for the city. Look at all the things that don’t get done, like reform of rent laws, for one example. So, I think that he [Bloomberg] is wrong if he thinks if he thinks that it’s been helpful to the city to have a couple of Republican friends."

Could be Bloomy is running for Governor, I reported that if Bloomy runs for Governor, he will run on the Independence Line, Republican Line and "Revive" the Liberal Party.
More importantly,........Bloomy gives money because he knows that the Dems cannot take the NY State Senate as that will just make the State Government like NY City Government, ......that being a "Banana Republic" with one Party rule.
Although......Regarding the Albany Pols.....
1 - All these "Political Hacks" have a "Part Time Job" in Albany, maybe 3 months of work per year.
2 - All of these "Political Hacks" receive "Lu-Lu's" (Extra $$$ given to them for working on a committees" accounts for $6,000 to $18,000 per year added to their salaries.
3 - All of these "Political Hacks" receive a "Stipend" which is over $130.00 per day for every day they are in Albany conducting their games.

RE: Big news is Aubertine defeating Barclay up in the hard-fought 48th SD, there are 30,000 MORE GOPers then Dems………
Dear NY GOP……….
1 - I noticed that all in GOP Leadership have “Albany Tunnel Vision” to NOT see that those in your own Political Party have Abandoned you and left you all in the dust.
2 - That is because the New York GOP Leadership has signed onto the “Liberal Democratic Tax & Spend Policies” that ALL New Yorkers see today. NY GOP has also signed onto some of the “Highest Taxes Increases” that New Yorkers have ever seen in this State. We expected increases from Liberal Democrats but not Republicans.
3 - The NY GOP forced “Grass Roots” to Accept “Liberals” such as Howard Mills, Jean Pirro, Bill Weld & of course the master plan of giving All New Yorkers another Liberal as Rudy Guiliani for President.
The “Grass Roots” rejected the Liberal Philosophy of this Liberal GOP Game Plan.
4 - Where was the New York GOP voice when the Party Leadership & Governor Pataki trashed cherished conservative values? GOP Chairman Sandy (I stand for Nothing) Treadwell was also silent when the GOP:
Abandoned his opposition to Medicaid abortion funding;
Pledged to remove the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform;
Ended the “conscience clause” for religious medical institutions thus forcing them to provide services contrary to their religious principles;
Signed into law the state gay rights bill;
Signed into law the hate crimes bill.
As for gun control, there is no record of Treadwell or the NY GOP Leadership opposing Pataki’s March 2000 proposal, which The New York Times described as “perhaps the widest ranging gun controls in the county”
5 - Finally, I and the others who DO NOT have “Albany Tunnel Vision” told you all that this was going to happen….That the “Voters” & “Grass Roots” will walk away from a “Clueless”, “Gutless” and “I stand for nothing” NY GOP.
Some of the County Chairman across the State and ALL of the “Grass Roots” have been saying this was going to happen, but know one with the “Albany Tunnel Vision” would listen to them.
And CLEARLY for a year now you have been reading mine and others opinions on this board.

RE: State GOP Senate Hires Luntz to help NY GOP Senate
The NY GOP still does not get it.
A pollster is not the full answer to continued losses Statewide.
Going to each and every GOP County Chair and their committees is the answer and conferring about their "County Problems & Concerns."
No one knows better on what is going on in their counties then those who live in them.
(Actually ....The State Senators and Assemblymen should have known about their problems in their own backyards, but obviously they have no clue.....For these elected officials have "Albany Tunnel Vision")
Survey of the Chairs I spoke too advise the GOP has turned off all of their County base & grass roots support. One of the reasons the Republicans lost for years now (And recent lost in the 48th) is because voters & grass roots have lost faith in NY GOP Party.
NY GOP have abandoned issues of Less Taxes & Spending and many, many of the Social & 2A issues! Thus, many, many of the supporters in the GOP Counties have walked away.
Many GOP voters continue to pay higher school taxes & property taxes...all this while oil prices affecting those in upstate.
And so, I doubt that anyone they hire (Luntz) will give the serious time needed to travel across this State and conduct the one on one interviews that are required to succeed.

Um...Bloomberg is a Republican (in name only) so what's the big deal??
You might not be able to tell, but there is a Republican party in New York.
