Release Date Set For Debut Scarlet Johansson Album

Oh, Scarlet Johansson. How hip are thee? Let me count the ways: You played an angsty teen in Ghost World. You appeared with the Jesus and Mary Chain at last year’s Coachella festival, singing backups on the very song that made you a star in Lost In Translation. You campaigned for Barack Obama a few weeks ago in Iowa. And now, you’re prepping for the release of your very own album of Tom Waits covers!

Yes, Atco Records, a Warner Music Group imprint, has set a May 20 release date for Ms. Johansson’s debut full-length, which will feature 10 interpretations of songs by the legendary Mr. Waits, and one song of her own making, the Los Angeles Times reports. And the cred doesn’t stop there: the album, the ethereally titled Anywhere I Lay My Head, was recorded last year by TV on the Radio producer David Sitek, and features collaborations with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. Keep an eye out for the 23-year-old (soon to be engaged?) Ms. Johansson on Pitchfork’s best of 2008 list.
