John McCain just delivered one of the more dreary victory speeches on record, droning on for nearly 20 minutes and reading from a speech rather dispassionately. The contrast with Mitt Romney, who spoke without notes and without a podium, reinforced one of Romney's subtle campaign themes: that he is the candidate of youth and energy, while McCain is tired and past his prime.

Romney also unveiled a crisp new line of attack in his speech, ticking off numerous hot-button issues that Washington has failed to address. McCain, whose victory will be trumpeted on television and in newspapers around the world, will undoubtedly receive a bounce from his win. But Romney may finally have found the right note to hit with his campaign.
