Katie Couric: Caught Sassin' On Tape!

With all her years of experience in front of the camera, one would think Katie Couric might stash the snark when preparing to go live. Not so.

In this clip, after complaining about her crappy microphone, Ms. Couric, 51, goes on to joke that “Giuliani’s dead,” pretending to decapitate herself. After a few more moments of idle chitchat, the CBS Evening News anchor compares John McCain’s wife, Cindy, to a Husky (as in the breed of dog). “Look at those eyes, she’s freakin’ me out a little,” she wisecracks of the politico’s spouse.

Jibes aside, Ms. Couric comes off as kind of hysterical—the life of the party, in fact. Even still, after she jokes about suffering a heart attack, the set crew cheers excitedly off-camera.

She comes off as hysterical? You’re an idiot. She is suppose to show some class when she is on the evening news. If you want people to believe what your telling them you have to have credibility. No one will take you serious if you’re acting like a monkey. She needs to understand that this isn’t the Today Show anymore.. She is bringing the quality of the evening news to an all time low. How pathetic..

Katie Couric has been through hell and high water. She was bantering on and on about various folk. She was entertaining herself. My experience with the news is that "the littlest things get picked up and BLOWN WAY OUT of proportion." Katie is just having fun and NOT at anyone else's expense. The lady doesn't need to be picked on because of this. Apparently, she didn't know that she was being broadcast. I wish her well. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the GOD of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19.

For you and your loved ones, I wish a most prosperous, healthy, God-inspired, Happy New Year.

PEACE!!!

What you dont know is that the comment " Giuliani’s dead " refers to his item being cut from the rundown, in other words, being cut from the broadcast. Dont read more into it.

I agree however that she plays it a bit loose in front of a live cam and mic. The studio crew could have helped by taking black during these periods. I guess there are not many friends there.

These things usually dont get out unless someone wants them out.

What she thinks funny, is in my opinion, continuous sarcasm. It appears she thinks she is quite entertaining no matter what she is saying. Mocking others is adolescent, and unpleasant to watch. I'm glad I don't work with her and I hope she is phased-out soon. I was glad when she left the today show, but I noted that when she had another job waiting, she couln't resis mocking Matt Lauer for wearing sunglasses in Rome, nor could she abide a touch to her knee in affection by him on her good-bye program. Time to say good-bye again.

It saddens me when those in the media- like the right-winged zealots over at Newsbusters.org and drudge among others- take a totally normal, un-newsworthy story, and spin in to suit their own personal agendas. I watched this video last night, and I saw nothing wrong with it. As a KC fan, I'm trying to be as impartial and objective as I can be- which is a lot more than I can say for you and most of the media. People complained when she first got the CBS job, that she didn't have enough chops to be the anchor, that she wasn't oriented enough with hard news and politics- I believe the word that floated around was gravitas. Then, when she reworked her program and her image to be as bland as a rice cake, people complained about that too. This video humanizes Katie a little more I think. She seems to be in the same boat as Hillary Clinton, in that she's viewed as cold and polarizing, even though Couric spent 15 years of her life waking up with families in their rooms and living rooms, sharing with them her joys and her sorrows. I'd like to see you, or any of her critics go before a live camera and present the news of the night. This video- and all the First Look videos released by CBS- make me like Katie more, if that's even possible.

Just a little note, I'm a soon to be 19 year old college freshman whose watched Katie since 1998. I admire her integrity and her ambition, and her perpetual smile. I think those who initially turned away from her broadcast should start tuning back in, because she's doing as good a job if not better than her ABC and NBC counterparts.

Jeremy,

"...right-winged zealots"

That's where I stopped reading.
