Style Blogs: Everything Old is New Again

For the last three years, street fashion blog The Satorialist, run by Scott Schuman, has existed as a tribute to what he sees "real people (really cool people) wearing in real life."

As is to be expected from any dispatch from the youth-obsessed fashion world, the photos tend to be of subjects in their 20's and 30's, but it doesn't have to be that way!

Via The Cut, The Daily Transom came across a new blog, Advanced Style, which bills itself as "Proof from the wizened and silver-haired set that style advances with age."

Curator Ari Cohen expanded, telling Cut: "Our aim is to take photos of elders with a unique sense of personal style that has developed with age."

Now, if cynics are tempted dismiss it as an attempt at humor (it's not) or worse, patronizing, we suggest they take a look around. We did a side-by-side comparison and discovered something that probably won't come as a shock to anyone who's raided grandmother's closet during a visit home: The featured looks on the two blogs are strikingly similar (excluding the Sartorialist's occasional inclusion of American Apparel products [wisdom comes with age!]).

Men's hats, particularly of the Panama (junior; senior) and Fedora (here and here) varieties are hugely popular on both sites, as are over-sized coats for the women (Mrs. and Miss).

Big scarves, bangles, battered leather briefcases, leggings, loud prints, flats, and of course, high-waisted pants and skirts also occur with almost equal frequency.

Apparently, the current styling choices of New York's fashion set are hardly removed from those of the people who still send them that $15 check when the Holidays roll around.
