Pretty Polo Players, Sans Ponies, Prance Around Soggy Hamptons
Even though the Bridgehampton Polo match on Saturday, Aug. 2, was canceled due to rain, Hamptons socials still tottered onto the muddy fields in flowing white summer dresses and 3-inch heels. The Transom spotted the beautiful Argentine polo player and the face of Polo Ralph Lauren, Nacho Figueras, posing for photos with bevies of giddy ladies.
“It’s a shame because we have people here, but there’s not much for them to watch,” said Mr. Figueras. He wore jeans, flip-flops, a blue button-up shirt and a baseball cap, which covered his lustrous shaggy hair. “One of my goals is to make polo a more well-known sport. And it helps when people who get a lot of attention to show up for the sporting event; we get a lot of very important people here.”
Afterwards, we headed over to the Social Life Magazine estate in Watermill for a soiree to celebrate its August issue, which featured yet another beautiful polo player, Chris Del Gatto, on the cover.
“There is a smaller element of Hamptons polo, which is the VIP tent with people who are not really watching the game,” said Mr. Del Gatto, who moonlights as the CEO of CIRCA Jewelry; Fabiola Beracasa is its creative director. “I think it’s always had this association of wealth and royalty, but if you really get to know the people who play the game, we’re oblivious to all the Champagne and the big hats.”
