Djokovic's Agent: Novak Knows He Has to 'Pay the Consequences For His Behavior'

I caught up with Novak Djokovic's agent Benito Pérez-Barbadillo after last night's PR disaster, and he said a center court interview was definitely the wrong place for Novak to vent his anger.

"He’s young, and he’s learning," said Mr. Pérez-Barbadillo "He learns from defeats, and he learns from wins and he learns from life. He’s 21 years old and he had a shit day yesterday. You have a bad day yesterday and when a friend of yours, or someone you think is a friend of yours, says something and it’s taken from the press and all over the world and you feel hurt--he chose the wrong audience to say where he said and he learned from that."

"He’s a professional and he knows he’s got to pay the consequences for his behavior, good or bad," he continued.

Pérez-Barbadillo insisted he did not coach Djokovic before his press conference last night. Novak was profusely apologetic for his comments on center court to the press corps gathered in Interview Room 1 after the match.

When asked if Novak was hurt over Roddick's comments two days earlier, he said, "Very much."

"I was thinking that it’s too bad that the crowd didn’t know what was going on with his feelings and he probably should have said it with a different audience and the crowd—I don’t think they knew what was going on and I don’t think they knew that Novak was hurt by some comments the day before," he said.
