Lindsay Ain't Got Rhythm

Lindsay Davenport "felt it was a little bit tough for me to get much rhythm" as she moved on to the third round in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, experiencing some difficulty from Alisa Kleybanova along the way. Davenport "didn't feel like it was very pretty tennis," and she was right. She didn't ever seem really comfortable during play, and though she won a huge percentage of points on her first serve, the percentage of first serves that went in was just over 50%. If she can get more consistency on her serve, she may provide a great match against her first seeded opponent yet this tournament, 12th-seeded Marion Bartoli.

Andy Roddick had, perhaps, a bit too much rhythm, hitting his opponent, Fabrice Santoro, with a very hard shot on his second-to-last serve of his 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 romp. Santoro wasn't happy, but Roddick makes a reasonable point: "I'm not going to go for someone up 6-2, 6-2, 5-2."
