Calvin Klein forsakes the buff,oiled, half-naked bucks of blowout fashion parties of yore in favor of some oil-rubbed chicken at Graydon Carter’s Waverly Inn, at a bash toasting Mr. Klein’s women’s wear designer Francisco Costa and friends, including host Liv Tyler. Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite Swedish rock-photographer Eric Broms opens an exhibit at the cavernous Scandinavian design store Clearly First, on Madison Avenue. We called him up in Stockholm, where he was—no, this can’t be true—leaving a fashion show! “It’s fashion week in Stockholm,” he said. “It’s smaller here. But it’s the same people.” His exhibit, he said, is “a mix of portraits, fashion stills and also stuff from Madonna, whom I worked with on the documentary we did on her called I’m Going to Tell You a Secret. We traveled with her for six months doing her Reinvention Tour. In 2005, if I’m not mistaken.” (Actually, it was 2004, but there have been several additional reinventions since then.) Mr. Broms said that of all the rock stars he’s photographed, U2 are the nicest. “A lot of times when you work with big celebrities and stars, they have a huge entourage and communication is much more complicated. But when you work with U2 it feels like they become your friends.” Back in breaking sartorial news, mod dress designer Lisa Perry bypasses the tents and takes her goods straight to Bloomingdale’s, where she’ll be joined by friends including artsy power-gallerists Mirabelle Marden and Melissa Bent of Rivington Arms gallery (whom we have to thank for those lovely ejaculatory Dash Snow, um … collages?); Kristian LaLiberte; and socialites—for truly, what else could they have been with these names?—Chessy Wilson and Annabel Vartanian. Finally: Is there anywhere we can turn to escape the increasingly soul-deadening tremors emanating from Bryant Park before we truly become convinced that we need a fox-chinchilla weekend coat? The 92nd Street Y, of course! Alan Rabinowitz, a man billed as the “Indiana Jones of Wildlife Conservation” by his employer, the Bronx Zoo, discusses “Tigers and Pumas and Jags—Oh My!” with Robert Krulwich of ABC and NPR. You may be shocked to learn that we are hastening the extinction of these great predatory species. (Blame your handbag.)
