Finally an event just for us! The New York Women in Film & Television presents “Dumb Blonde, Smart Blonde,” a discussion about how, “equated with youth and sexiness, blondes have always been centerpieces in the movies.” Oh, stop, we’re blushing! Carrie Rickey, a film critic and the moderator (“I was a natural until 16. Now I’m an ‘elective’ blonde”), told Eight-Day Week Special Correspondent Alvin Chang that “many people have observed a blondocracy. On the nightly news, we have Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer—blond has been reclaimed. Blondes are pervasive. But the dumb blonde is no longer pervasive.” Furthermore, “we certainly have a blonde running for president!” Oh, sister, don’t clump us with her! Now that everyone who feels invested in the fall tailored-suit trend has left town for pastures abroad, let’s all don fleeces and UGG’s and shuffle over to BAM to be invigorated by the Chichester Theatre Festival’s celebrated production of MacBeth, starring Patrick Stewart, shall we? Because otherwise the TriBeca Ball at the New York Academy of Art—which is, incidentally, the “only graduate school in the United States devoted exclusively to the study of the human figure”—featuring as it does honorary chairs including aging art stars Eric Fischl and April Gornik, Jeff Koons and Jenny Saville and an advertised dress code of “bohemian chic,” just seems like a whole lotta work.
