Did you really think you could spend all winter lying in a pile of laundry, watching DVDs of The L Word and House, with Dunkin Donuts and Domino’s on speed-dial? You live in New York! Which means you have to occasionally venture forth and act smart—it’s kind of part of the deal. So—how about a tribute to Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe, author of Things Fall Apart, reissued this year in honor of its 50th anniversary—meaning he wrote the book at 27, damn him—hosted by the PEN American Center at Town Hall with fellow novelists Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Edwidge Danticat, Ha Jin, and Toni Morrison, not to mention the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. The rich white punks at the Moth never had it so good. ... And if you still have the stomach for Hollywood after overdoing the ranch Doritos during the Oscar telecast, head to McNally Robinson for a reading by Mark Harris from his tome on the 1967 Best Picture Oscar nominees, Pictures at a Revolution. (In case you were wondering, they included Bonnie and Clyde and The Graduate. But hey, Juno was good, too.)
