A Brooklyn Hillary Supporter Explains Obama's Brooklyn Appeal

Azi Paybarah

Former City Councilwoman Una Clarke, a Clinton supporter, is organizing a major event tonight in Flatbush, in part as a counter-demonstration of the strong support Barack Obama seems to have in that part of Brooklyn.

Clarke, who said that the details are not finalized for the event, tried explaining to me Obama’s local appeal.

“Ethnic groups support ethnic groups,” she said. “I never could have been elected to public office unless the Caribbean-American community willed that I be their elected official. So, I don’t blame other people. The Caribbean-American community saw in me a new voice to advance their aspirations and blacks, especially young blacks, may see Barack as a president who could advance their aspirations.”

She added, “In many ways people get quite emotional and do not quite analyze the political environment as well.”

Referring to those kinds of Obama supporters, Clarke said, “I wouldn’t blame them at all. It took me a long time to grow into understanding how public policy and politics really work.”

David Florida (not verified) says:

Ronald Reagan was the face that fronted all those advertisements that effectively broke the Truman campaign for universal health care.

Obama's face is now the front to break the campaign by Clinton for universal health care.

If you believe in something for government you have to be prepared to mandate and fight for it.

For the better health of the poor, the sick, the elderly, the young and the infirm that means universal health care.

Anything else leaves them as they are at the moment, many suffering or dying because they cannot get health care.

Senator Obama seems to think a fireside chat with insurance companies is sufficient. It seems to me that he has already sold out to vested interests and is more interested in publicity than caring for the health of those he purports to represent.

Americans will reject Hillarycare because it is confiscatory and infringes on individual liberty. Hillarycare involves heavy fines, wage garnishment, and surpression of dissent. Think of it as the IRS running healthcare in America.

Americans will not accept fascism clad in a "pants suit." Americans will not tolerate long waiting lists for elective surgery, chemotherapy or other life-saving treatments/procedures. Such is the norm in Europe and Canada. The "nanny-state" is in retreat across Europe and all over the communist world.

Sen. Obama's healthcare plan respects our tradition of liberty. His plan includes affordability for all by providing subsidies for low-wage workers/large families, lowing premiums by enlarging group plans, and attracting people into the healthcare profession.

So, Mr. Florida please rethink your support for Hillarycare. Let's turn the page on the so-called "Clinton Restoration," which sounds dynastic and unAmerican.
