After months of raising money, David Weprin is having an official comptroller campaign kick-off event on January 10th at the Carlton Hotel, from 6 to 8 p.m.

That happens to be one of the last days to raise money that will count towards the this disclosure period (figures available January 15 from the Campaign Finance Board).

Here's email:

Dear Friends,

Please join New York City Council Finance Chairman David Weprin for his 2008 Comptroller kickoff event on January 10th at the Carlton Hotel (6-8PM) for an evening of delicacies prepared by world renowned Chef Daniel Boulud. As Finance Chairman of the New York City Council and a lifelong activist, David Weprin is best prepared to serve as New York City's Comptroller. We look forward to your support during what promises to be a memorable evening. Please see David's biography, as well as the event invitation below.

Yours very sincerely,

Arthur Leopold

The photo from StreetsBlog was lifted from a 1996 post on the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council Annual Installation and Awards Reception on the its website (NortheastQueensJewish.org):

It would have been nice to credit that as well. The JCC honored the Councilman that day.

Is Weprin using Leopold now? Maybe he'll be able to add some much needed juice to his campaign. Maybe he'll even pull off an Obama endorsement! ;)

Corey, I don't think so. David didn't have this particular toupee back then yet. In fact, I don't think he had any. Nor was he this skinny...In fact, he was downright unpresentable. A Lew Fidler, minus the personality.

He only revamped his looks after he entered the City Council and there was this article in Newsday called "hair apparent" in 2002 on how he got new look and loss dozens of pounds overnite (liposuction, anyone?). He was aspiring to be city-wide candidate since he got elected as council member.

Talk about extreme makeover!

Nice try Corey...

This is actually the Comptroller Campaign that kicked off the event and we do agree with most of the things that you talk about here. On the other hand, please let us know what do you expect when you quit smoking? Have you ever wondered how to quit smoking? Do you think about cravings or do you plan to follow Obama example and continue to puff (got nothing against Mr President, with all do respect, Sir) but nicotine addiction is something that we should pay attention to and get rid of, so now guys and do not waste any more precious time on things that don't deserve it, just follow the rules and you will have success. This being said we wish you luck with free hypnotism method and good luck to you with your no smoking campaign.
