Yvonne Graham and the Brooklyn Borough President's Race

Before Marty Markowitz gave his State of the Borough last night in Brooklyn, his deputy borough president, Yvonne Graham, gave her own address, which sounds a lot like a kick-off stump speech for her much-discussed, but undeclared, bid to succeed Markowitz.

Walking out of the event, I asked Assemblyman Nick Perry (another possible candidate for the office) if he thought Graham’s speech was the launch of her campaign.

“Well, it might have been a prep for that,” he said, and added, “I’d say it’s making hay while the sun still shines.”

Also expected to run for Brooklyn borough president are City Councilmen Charles Barron, who attended the speech, and Bill de Blasio, who did not.
