Unlike other designers that have opted for presentation-only Fall ’09 shows or have canceled them altogether, Marc Jacobs still plans to hold his at the Armory. But as for his post-show party that every year proves to be the most hard to get into A-listy event—in September Sofia Coppola and Kirsten Dunst attended; former New York Ranger and Vogue intern Sean Avery did not get in—it is, in fact, canceled.
But it seems that the decision was more in keeping with the dire economy rather than lack of financing for the party inside Mr. Jacobs’ company. According to the New York Post, Mr. Jacobs’s financials are just fine. The designer, who lives most of his time in Paris, has reportedly found himself a new place to stay while in New York with his boyfriend Lorenzo Martone—a $30,000 condo inside the André Balazs–developed building at 40 Mercer Street, just a few blocks away from the Mercer Hotel, where he usually stays. The 2,500-square-foot Soho apartment inside the Jean Nouvel–designed building rented by Mr. Jacobs reportedly has three bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms.
Wilbur Gonzalez, a listing broker at Brown Harris Stevens, who also lives in the building, would not confirm that the designer is a new tenant, but told the Post, "Even in uncertain times, 40 Mercer continues to attract A-list clientele."
