Rumors Boost Times Stock

The New York Times Company stock spiked today, reports MarketWatch, apparently based on rumors that the awesomely-named Mexican investor Carlos Slim–who already owns a 6.9 percent stake in the company–would be buying up even more.

According to the New York Stock Exchange:

In view of the unusual market activity in the stock of New York Times Co., (NYSE: NYT), the NYSE has contacted the company in accordance with its usual practice; the company stated that its policy is not to comment on rumors.

The Times never comments on rumors, except when it does so in un-by-lined blog posts.
