A Siena poll out this morning says a slim majority of New Yorkers want David Paterson to finish his term, while a lot of people want an outside investigator to probe his allege wrongdoing.
Fifty-five percent of registered voters want Paterson to finish his term, compared to 37 percent who want him to quit now. A difference question showed only 21 percent of New Yorkers say Paterson should be impeached, compared to 71 percent who said he should finish his term.
Fifty-one percent of registered voters said likely future candidate for governor Andrew Cuomo could conduct a fair investigation of Paterson, compared to 38 percent who did not. Two thirds of voters also said said they’d prefer an “independent, outside prosecutor conducting the investigation.”
And the part of the poll that’ll make the biggest splash: 54 percent of respondents said they’re now embarrassed to call themselves New Yorkers.
