Tired of cookie-cutter, run-of-the-mill, multi-million-dollar condos? This $12.95 million apartment is so unique that the laws of physics and geometry say it shouldn't even exist.

"Every single feature in this loft was custom-designed," says the Sotheby's listing. The result of that customization is somewhat startling. "The circular flow of the layout takes advantage of the loft's overall square shape," the listing claims. The apartment resists simple categories, identifying as two different shapes at once. It is this combination of opposites that gives the loft strength: while the "proportion" is "grand," the "scale" is "human."

But realism isn't the point. The apartment indulges in a healthy dose of fantasy, as all great properties should, so it makes sense that the amount of "sunshine" it receives is "unbelievable." — William Alden
