Diaz Sr. Says Paterson Will Take Down Senate Dems
May 27, 2009 | 12:21 p.m
ALBANY—State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr. told me he doesn't think David Paterson shoud run for re-election, because the governor's positions and persistent unpopularity will "take us down in the [Senate] majority."
Diaz Sr. declined to say who he would support. I asked him if he would run. He said no.
"I'm in the age where I'm planning my retirement," he said.
He made the same claim this morning during a radio interview with Fred Dicker, which can be heard here.
Diaz Sr. also said that his opposition to same-sex marriage has contributed to its decline in popularity in a recent public opinion poll.
