Happy Weekend, Albany
To everyone's delight, the weekend is here, legitimately.
Morgan Hook, a spokesman for David Paterson, said that a special session called for today at 3 p.m. has been called off. Aides to the Democratic leaders of the Sate Senate, which sat through over a dozen special sessions, will convene in regular session on Wednesday.
On the docket will likely be school governance legislation and possibly some kind of agreement over the chamber's rules. I've heard from several senators today who were already leaving the capital district to go home.
"I'm in my district office already," Senator Ruben Diaz Sr. said by phone. Yesterday, announcing a leadership deal, he noted: "I pray to my God and savior Jesus Christ that I do not have to work weekends again."
Amen.
