Liu Recalls Yassky’s Term-Limits Vote, and Also That Failed Congressional Run

Observer intern Kate McGee gets John Liu’s response to David Yassky’s ad, which the campaign is calling “negative” and “desperate.”

“He pledged to fight the extension of Term Limits before voting to overturn a referendum that New Yorkers upheld twice,” said a spokesman for Liu, Juanita Scarlett.

“And, let’s not forget that he moved into a federal voting rights district — the 11th Congressional District — to challenge three African-American candidates for Shirley Chisholm’s historic seat only to move out of the community after losing the election,” she said.

Yassky’s television ad, unveiled today, also violates his pledge to campaign on “issues,” said Scarlett.

Liu campaigned heavily in the predominately African-American sections of Brooklyn in the run-up to the primary, and is drawing strength from political leaders there, including Assemblyman Darryl Towns, who took an early and out-front role in Liu’s campaign.
