this shows that monserrate has a base. sabini has one as well and was able to overcome a spirited challenge by brining a citywide coalition together for his campaign. things may be different in 2 or 4 years. monserrate has to ask himself if he wants to be a perennial losing candidate or if he thinks that this is a building block for the future. i have to think that sabini is hoping to fend off challenges until redistricting gives him more favorable lines although that is hard in that part of queens. but when it comes to drawing district lines, many strange things have happened.
