There is one story that seems more important than the others here: New York taxes are much higher than other cities. This hits every taxpayer where it hurts.
There is one major villain here. *Public authorities* are responsible for a huge amount of state debt, and eventually we the taxpayers subsidize their lack of accountability.
I don't trust Spitzer to regulate public authorities, and I certainly don't expect Silver or Bruno to look out for the taxpayers.
I do hope publications like this do their job, but I'm not counting on it. I'm going to count on people like Norman Oder to keep an eye on the MTA, ESDC and the rest of those money-suckers.
