OKW (not verified) says:

In order for the city to take the park they would need the State Legislature's approval. It's called Park Alienation and the legislature generally defers to the Assemblymember and State Senator who represent the area. State Sen Liz Krueger has been opposed to it but I am not sure what Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh will do. The last two Assemblymembers, Sanders and Friedman, both opposed the losing of the park. That area has the least amount of parkland in the entire city and needs MORE parkland not less.

Does Brian have the courage to stand up to Doctoroff? He certainly has not shown much courage in standing up to Shelly, considering he campaigned on standing up to Shelly. He was even booed at a CB6 meeting for toeing the party line by voting for DiNapoli. I won't even mention that he's about to sell the community out in regards to Union Square Park.

Maybe Doctoroff should call CB6 and review their plan (which is a wonderful model of community-based planning) for the entire area.
