This was not MEANT to be a citizenship issue, but a safe driving issue.
Having a driver's license doesn't make a person legal. It does make the road safer.
What makes many people upset is the fact that some deal was made with the Federal government by Spitzer, which now makes this issue an identity issue.

I'm ashamed that not more elected officials showed up to support this protest against this outrageous change of heart by our governor.
John Liu is the only one who seems to really rally for minorities. Maybe other politicos are too comfortable and lazy to come out on a Sunday afternoon to show their support.
