Mary the Librarian (not verified) says:
If it was fully funded, how can they justify use of Homeland Security dollars for an expansion that serves private development? Does any intelligent being in government really buy into this smoke screen?
It is also amazing that Empire State Development Corporation would consider using historic preservation tax credits. It is only because the muscular political interests support preservation of the Farley Post Office. ESDC is happy to tear down historic National Register-listed historic buildings--also eligible for tax credits--in Manhattanville because the private developer (Columbia University) has paid them to do so.
ESDC is required to support itself. It does so by taking payments from developers. That is can wield the power of the state in many development decisions is a scandal. Or, it should be.
