The only way Mayor Mike Bloomberg (I-NY) or anyone else could deny Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) of his second term is to run against him in the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary during the 2010 Midterm Election. Given a strong Democratic proclivity in New York State, neither a Republican or an Independent can win the general election except under unusual circumstances, which may not occur by then. If Mayor Mike were to be serious about unseating Governor Spitzer (highly unlikely), he should run as a Democrat, which he still really is due to his strong liberal credentials on almost every issue that there is, despite having switched to Republican and then to unaffiliated partywise during his political career to date.
