They pocket and then your out the last and security with little notice on moving. My neighbors rented a home and woke up to a foreclosure sign two weeks before Christmas. They had paid for 8 months none went to mortgage by the landord and he foreclosed and never returned there last months and security deposit. They had two weeks to move at the holidays.
Most rentals require cash for the first last and security for the purpose that you could be giving them a bad check.
You could have always check the records to be sure who owned the property and insisted on receipts and copies of everything.
