Eliot Spitzer's failure is not his alleged immorality. He used the strong arm of his office as Attorney General to harrass and illegally attempt to close down the volunteer network of Crisis Pregnancy Centers in NY becasue they offended the abortion lobby that paid for his campaigns.
He tried to force the Ancient Orde of Hibernians to admit homosexuals to their parade honoring a Catholic Saint.
He boasted that he would shut down the pro-life movement in NY, a mostly religous movement made up of a broad diversity of New York citizens.
Eliot Spitzer does not need an appointment with a prostitute to leave office - he had enough before these allegations to disqualify himself.
