Growing up in New Jersey I remember being on a bus circa 1961 and counting how many whites were there versus blacks and/or Puerto Ricans. Already, aged 10, the fear was there. None of my Irish-American relatives probably thought they were racist but then where did I learn my fear? Obama addresses that still present latent racism: the kind that appeared in Ms. Ferraro's remarks. I don't know if his leadership will help to heal this divide but I am willing to give it a try. At age 60 I don't want to keep fighting for the old America. Time to move on and accept change.
