Economic development is the art of the deal, the confluence of many factors that entice business and construction. Planning is like writing a novel. Interesting, but rarely reflective of future fluctuations and trends. Upstate ESDC director Dan Gundersen has been working hard on a plan for upstate, if anyone is interested. The formula for the state's success is simple: affordable housing, cheap land, moderate taxes, and a low cost workforce. A few of the above are upstate. None of the above are downstate. Downstate pols want to change the current bifurcated system, yet they didn't like the statewide model either. Fellas, let's decide if we really want economic development in this state, or stop wasting my time...
