Cronkite retired in the early '80s, when news' departments had no competition from the Internet, and minimal competition from cable TV. Cable TV was just in its infancy. I think CNN was launched in 1980. Oddly enough, Couric worked for CNN in the early days.
CBS took a gamble with Couric and it failed. I like Katie and it's about time more women were in front of the cameras instead of behind the cameras.
One success story is Meredith. She is a class act and doing a wonderful, superb job. I never watched morning TV much in the past, but lately Meredith starts my day out perfectly.
