Look, nothing lasts forever, even CBGB, but the Varvatos store is indicative of the fact that the entire Lower East Side is becoming an exclusive high-end yuppie paradise. The place is starting to be overrun by boring lawyers and bankers who are quickly draining the area of everything that was interesting and vital about it. $1,000 leather jackets are simply an insult to the working people of the neighborhood. More power to the Varvatos protestors -- they're one of the last bastions of Lower East Side spirit and they're fighting the good fight.
