Liz Benjamin was apoplectic upon hearing about Lovett becoming her new boss. Benjamin, sources inside The Daily News say, demanded a prompt meeting with Mort Zuckermann or said she'd take Lovett's old gig at the Post.

Joe Mahoney's departure is old news. The Daily News has been trying to force Mahoney out the door since his DWI arrest last year. Mahoney apparently slipped and that gave The Daily News all it needed to let him move the party to another bar.
