AMK (not verified) says:
Hey "Read the Fine Print", who (exactly) has been pushed out? Do you know anybody personally? Will you name names?
All this fear mongering is going on, but I don't see anything to back it up. If you're poor and living in Manhattan, you're probably living in rent-stabilized or rent-protected apartments. Or you're in public housing. All of which mean that you're not going anywhere anytime soon (unless you choose to).
OR maybe you bought a place years ago when Harlem was less desirable. Now your property taxes are going up and you can't afford it. Bingo! You just made $1M on the sale of your brownstone and can afford to go visit your grandkids in Florida.
Or maybe you're renting but it is market rate. But those aren't the working (or non-working) poor. And it's doubtful you've been living in your place for more than a few years.
I just don't see how the idea that you're peddling makes sense.

Neither does Columbia professor Lance Freeman: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-04-19-gentrification_x.htm
