Clarke Staffs Up
[Nicole will largely be the one covering Brooklyn's 11th district congressional race this year. For those of you watching closely, you can email tidbits, releases, literature or anything else to the address at right. Also, full disclosure: she worked for a time for Carl Andrews.]
Roll Call reports that Council Member Yvette Clarke has hired Chris Lanier to head up her campaign for Brooklyn's 11th congressional seat.
Lanier most recently worked on Vincent Gentile's heated campaign for re-election, the only competitive race in Brooklyn, which Vinnie won.

Lanier's hiring is a major coup for Clarke. The guy is a superb grasroots organizer.
Which of these candidates will hire Kalman Yeger??
Lanier ran McManus campaign in the Bronx and came in third. Why is this guy getting so much press for being pick campaign manager.
I heard he has lost a lot of races.
2:56 if you have every worked with the guy you would know why. Chris is a great campaign manager. He brings no ego and only the desire to win. I know of no 100%'s in this business, but if you want to have a shot then hire people like chris...
Spincontrol obviously doesn't know that some campaigns are unwinnable, but good consultants manage to make their mark anyway.
Anonymous stop with the general talk what races besides Gentile. did Chris win. And remember everybody was in Gentile race from Vito to every speaker candidate to every union.
Can you find me one statement on Google where Chris is called Vinny's campaign manager?
spincontrol: Its not how many wins you have that makes you a good fit. My point about Chris is, he's a good campaign manager and he might be a good fit for Clarke. He is a good guy and works hard thats what my point was.
why do you have it out for Chris anyway?? did he take your job or something?
Crain's Insider reported the Lanier hire on Feb. 2.

The problem lies not in the campaign manager but in the candidate. Yvette Clarke wins the Virginia Fields award for having the best sounding soundbites that signify and say nothing. Looks smart, talks smart, isn't smart. She still has a massive campaign debt to overcome and with BDB wounded and becoming almost an albatross, Yvette is going to be stuck in the mud. Chris Lanier will have to be David Frickin Garth and a Cash Machine to make her go.
already the manager is getting more press than the candidate and we are not talkingh about Hank or Mercurio for chrissake.
already the manager is getting more press than the candidate and we are not talkingh about Hank or Mercurio for chrissake.
the real issue is whether Lanier can get any control of the candidate or her mother. they need to recognize now that all their talk means nothing if it doesnt translate, and that a little discipline would go a long way.
Seems Annoymous is the master at spin control
chris was active in deblasio's 01 race and palma's 03 win over espada. the guy understands and values the grassroots, is tech savvy and isn't your typical bklyn dem party hack. i think it's a good pick up for clarke.
spincontrol: All of those who wrote off Gentile for dead can analyze whether running his winning campaign is a valuable credntial.
No: The fact that someone is or isn't a hack usually means little to the question of whether they can run a campaign. No one understands winning local elections in Brooklyn than Bernie Catcher; does that make him a reformer?
Why didn't Yvette get a Caribbean-American who knows the district? There were many she could have chosen. To name a few , Omar Boucher, Darryl Smart, Francisco Hall, Rock Hackshaw, James Archibald and many many others.
Watch her play the caribbean card!
To 6:34.
AYE. WHOA.
Not me please. Not looking for the work. Already locked in to a couple campaigns.
I wish Yvette well.
They need to go get Luther Smith. He is one of the better technicans/ tacticans/ analysts/ consultants/ operatives out there. And he has Panamanian roots. Plus, he knows Brooklyn ( as well as all 5 boros). Plus he just came off of CVF and Ferrer campaigns. Before that Kerrey's presidential campaign.
Unless he has signed on to Townes versus Barron, or maybe Fields if she runs in Harlem ?
Didn't Trudy Mason say she was supporting Yvette Clarke?
Just for observation, note that Yvette Clarke ran for office in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and now 2006.
And don't forget her mother (UNA) ran for congress in 2000 (Yvette was the manager). My suspicion is that her fundraising will be problematic here. How many times do you go to the well in 7 (6) years ( 2000-2006).
Yvette Clarke is right on the issues and right for the district. If money were the main factor in BKN Shirley Chisolm, Nydia Velazquez, Margarita Lopez would not have won. Hiring CLanier shows her campaign is going in the right direction. In times as these, people need representatives who will be able to stand up to special interests (who are lining up with her opponents)and start turning that district and this country around. Who better than Yvette.
Yassky, for starters. And talk about campaign staff: he has a secret weapon of mass destruction, too.
Yes, Yvette Clarke has mass destruction. That's why she deals with shady people. I hope people will wake up and see her phoniness. She protects her "men", especially abusive men on her staff. The only thing she has accomplished was that she gave women an extra pot to urinate in. Otherwise, she does not care about women's issues nor children. Her spokeperson is her mouthpiece. Instead of coming out to speak to the people. She acts like she is a movie star. She rides the backside of her mother in which she thinks she is allowed to break every rule in the book. She plays dirty and I can bet that this is going to be a very muddy race.
This is directed to the person that describes herself as an aware caribbean woman. What are you trying to prove or accomplish by your opinions or are they statements. It does not change the fact that as someone posted Yvette clarke is right on the issues and right for the district. Are you so use to dealing with weak people that it intimidates you that she is a strong woman who is calm, kool (Kool with a K), and collective. The impression that I get from your posting is that your head must be so messed up that it is oblivious to its own effects.
Like I stated before, this race is going to get very dirty. Anytime, a person's freedom of speech and public opinion is always going to be challenged to political gain that is going to be a problem. Politicians are either genuine or they are not. In my opinion, Yvette Clarke is not genuine, and that has nothing to do with being a strong, collective woman, because she can be a strong, cool, collective liar. The people, especially women and children need a representative who is concerned about basic human rights. If that is a weak person, then I vote for that weak person. I am an avid advocate against domestic violence and child abuse. At the present time, the only rights that she is concerned about is being in the spotlight. If something is wrong with my head for believing this, then I like being crazy.
To the person who is not green with envy, how much money are you paying him? Hope your cash flow keeps going. It is not envy, but pity.
To the person who is not green with envy, it seems like you have issues. Everyone has the right to voice an opinion. It seems like the comment made about Yvette Clarke you took it personally.Politicians and their people should be used to criticism- why aren't you? You sound like a bully. Some people feel as if she is not doing a good job, but unfortunately popularity rules- not necessarily substance. Other people feel as if she is doing a good job. Everyone has a right to voice an opinion- and it is not as if Councilmember Clarke is important. She is just another politician who gives popcorn proclamations.
Everyone has the right to voice an opinion, and Everyone has the right to question an opinion. It does not mean that one has issues or is taking it personal. I am glad that Councilmember Clarke is running because it is unfortunate that popularity has ruled and not necessarily substance. The big "C" is important to those who really want change and do not let the fixation of jealousy grow in leaps and bounds. Credit should be given where credit is due. It is obvious that some type of mental breakdown is taking place within the innermost confines of the minds of some people which make it impossible for them to accept that proclamations are given to those who have either achieved something or have made some type of contribution.
No one is stating that they are jealous of Yvette Clarke. Maybe the mental breakdown is the one who cannot handle the criticism. What did someone do for hers, besides hit her domestic help? What did some of the people who got proclamations do for Brooklyn? Some were justified. Others were just photo-ops. There are people who hustle every day in this city who do more than some of these celebrities and her personal friends. There is no Big "C"-that's juvenile talk. She is a person like everyone else with faults, but she has not been in the trenches like other people because she has a sheltered like a spoiled pup.
I think you met like a sheltered pup.Why call someone crazy because they do not support Yvette Clarke? I thought this was a democracy, but I guess with censorship, unequal rights for women- We are heading for Big Brother. Everyone knows that Yvette Clarke is not in control of her campaign. Her ideas come from her staff who like to stroke her ego. Her staff is good with their ideas, but everyone knows that they treat her like she is a movie star- Greta Garbo- "I want to be alone"- then steps up her spokeperson. She is far from being humble and does not know where to begin. I remember staff talking about her office sometime ago in City Hall with all the pictures of herself filling up the walls. Someone like that does not care about people, but simply image. I haven't really seen any other politician ( though I could be wrong) trying to display the same image.
What, you seem to know so much, and it seems that you have been or are around those in the political arena. Did you ever run against Clarke and if you did please step up, and do not use gossip to justify your anger. Yvette has what it takes.
