Who Isn't a Lobbyist?

Over on the West Side, one of the Assembly candidates, Charles Simon, has a couple of mailings that perfectly illustrate how hard it will be for the state Democratic Party establishment to extricate itself from a lobbyist-heavy political culture. The central problem being that the establishment is composed in no small part of lobbyists. Here's one mailer (.pdf), highlighting Simon's call to "ban gifts from lobbyists," his refusal to take donations from lobbyists (it helps to have your own money), and his general disgust at their proliferation. And here's one with headshots (.pdf) of a couple prominent Simon supporters; one is Ethan Geto, identified as Howard Dean's New York campaign manage. In his day job, Geto is ... a lobbyist and P.R. man whose clients include major real estate developers.

Give me a break! Who is a lobbyist? Ron Lauder who spearheads term limits hires lobbyists all the time to protect his spolied brat interests. and his pal Pataki serves 3 terms despite promising only 2 terms. Does Lauder speak up? No. He's a phony. Term Limits are only for the little people.

Ethan Geto represented Trump's massive project on the West Side.

Simon's parents broke with the community and aggressively supported Trump's massive project on the West Side.

Simon is wasting his money running for that seat.

Defending Arlene Simon is normally the last thing I would want to do, but a number of prestigious civic groups broke with "the community" (i.e. people who were going to lose their views) to support the Trump project.

no mention of the fact that the state partys "spokeperson" howard wolfson is a lobbyist ?

I was amused by the argument in one of the Simon mailings from the Grandmother Against the War that voting for Simon would be eending a message against Bush. Isn't that the same dumb idea that Brian Ellner peddled last year. Like anyone in DC other than Jerry Nadler cares what West Siders think>

Anonymous says:

Did anybody notice that the mailings sucked? Who produces this crap? Isn't their anybody talented willing to work for Brokaw's son-in-law, or is every devent consultant in America afraid of pissing off Nadler?

Questioner (not verified) says:

Is Ethan getting paid for consulting on the campaign? Or is it a freebie from a lobbiest?

Mailman (not verified) says:

He hired a print jobber who only does good work when it is sent to him by a real direct mail consultant.

anon (not verified) says:

I don't know if Geto is working for free, but he did give Mr. "I'll take no lobbyist's gifts" a lovely gift -- a contribution from his lobbying firm. Check Simon's filing.

I am so glad I don't live in that district, so I won't receive crap mail like this for the rest of the year. Did anyone else notice in the second piece that he seems to endorse himself on page two? Guess he couldn't get anyone else to do it, other than Ronni and Ethan.
