AG Update

Apparently, today was the day to drop big names in the AG's race.

This morning, Mark Green pulled out the triple endorsement of David Dinkins, Judith Hope and Marty Markowitz. [In an earlier version, I tied these endorsements to the McCall/Cuomo race in 2002. Many of you were kind enough to let me know that I was wrong to do so. Firstly, Dinkins endorsed Mark for mayor over Freddy and Mark had worked for the Dinkins administration, so they go way back. Secondly, Hope wasn't the state chairman during that primary, as I first wrote. It was, and still is, Herman Denny Farrell. Lastly, it was 4 years ago and some people have moved on.]

Not to be outdone, Andrew not only unveiled his website, but announced veteran media men David Axelrod and Jef Pollock are joining his team (something this site anticipated earlier).

Denny Farrell was chair of the state Party prior to and during the primary of 2002.

I am sorry but this is just irresponsible reporting. You say the endorsements come from Mark cashing in on McCall anger? There are TONS of McCall supporters now supporting Cuomo...isn't that applicable here?

Stringer endorsement coming up next. I heard he walked by Green et al. and almost jumped on the mic, but said he wanted his own day.

I support Mark. But Cuomo will win.

Didn't Judith Hope endorse Green a long time ago?

Axelrod and Pollack - they did great for Ferrer. Can't wait to see Rev. Al dancing the Tarantella.

Tattaglia's a pimp.

its gotta be a sad day when you trot out 3 endorsements and the one with most political juice is a lame-duck term limited clown of a borough president who is at odds with his local party infrastructure (indicted and otherwise)...

Apparently Mayor Dinkins is the only African American that forgives Green for the Sharpton - Ferrer mailer.

Beadie Markowitz (not verified) says:

Mark Green is the next Attorney General.

Trifecta for Mark Green -- and Markowitz to boot! There goes the inevitability arguement, Mr. Cuomo ...

He's at odds with the local party infrastructure? Maybe I should give him more respect.

wonder how long axelrod'll last this time?

I'll always take advice from Marty Markowitz on restaurants. He has a clear understanding of how to consume food (even if he always brings his own wine). But, I'm more likely to ask for his opinion on an appropriate wardrobe (love those ice cream suits) than on who is most qualified to be the State's lawyer.

Anonymous says:

Yep that sews it up...marty endorses Mark and hence he will win...

anon (not verified) says:

Oh no. More self indulgent, self reflecting, obsessive, nonsense from Wacko Gatemouth.

Gatemouth (not verified) says:

9:40:
Yes, if you can't dispute the substance of a comment (that no one takes Markowitz seriously enough to take his advice on who should be AG), then by all means, attack the person who made the comment.

And no one who defends Markowitz should have an issue with people who are self indulgent, self reflecting, obsessive, nonsensical and wacko.

stu (not verified) says:

Gatemouth, I don't think anyone as defending Markowitz. We just can't stand your ranting and raving. You are just like Judith Memblatt.

OK, I'll take the bait. First of all, my wife loves Marty.

Second of all, I think he has been an effective borough president. Why? In general an elective executive has three jobs -- manager of a public enterprise, a government policy maker, and a leader of the public at large. The borough presidents lack those first two roles. Most do nothing, or cling to their few remaining meaningless policy functions.

Markowitz has embraced the third role as borough cheerleader. You may not like what he is cheering for, but at least he is doing something. Moreover, he has embraced change in a city where the safe thing to do is oppose it, especially given that politics is controlled by those who are cashing in and moving out. Ie. instead of announcing plans to "bring back the Dodgers," noticing there are Black people living here now and seeking a basketball team.

As for his style, not everyone is a scholar, and not everyone who is not a scholar is a joke. I don't like his stand on tolls, but I'll take him over the other BPs, current and former.

Marty gave me and my friend Brooklyn pins when we said hello to him on New Years Eve at Alma (a great Mexican restaurant). I love my Brooklyn pin.

Isn't it funny how much press and reflection and money is going into an AG RACE!?! Maybe someone should let them know that not everyone is Clinton or Spitzer and it's usually a dead-end job.
Although, with this being Mark's 234098th coveted position...
and can Cuomo just go away? How about these two find real jobs and stop pretending they're more than quarter celebrities who nobody cares about...

I like Gatemouth's comments. I hope Gatemouth posts more (and no, this is NOT Gatemouth posting this, so no nasty remarks!)
With regard to BPs, Adolfo Carrion is pretty together, much more so than Markowitz, who while a good cheerleader, really hasn't produced much for his borough.

anon (not verified) says:

thank you Gatemouth. We know you like to hear yourself talk.

Foo Gazy (not verified) says:

I not only enjoy Gatemouth's posts, I enjoy the posts of the people who flame him. This IS a blog, not reality....and BTW, I think I know who Gatemouth is, I think I know who Gatemouth is. nyahnyahnyahnyah nyah.

And hey, Marty Markowitz has been a terrific Boro Pres...well written Cranky. Folks who live in Brooklyn can compare him to a long tradition of exciting and stellar leaders like Sunshine is Howie Golden, Sebastian Sam Leone and Abe Stark who served for ten years after his death. Hey...that probably means he blogs here! Right Beadie?

Carrion is pretty good. Howard Golden on the other hand...

Sorry wrong Denny Farrell. The one we know is the Chairman of Swing on the radio and not a politician. We are talking about the real Denny Farrell
