Return of the Gov.

One tabloid editorial or other seems to have knocked Governor Pataki out of his sickbed.

From a media advisory his office just sent out:

3:00 p.m. -- Holds media availability; Red Room, State Capitol, Albany.

I’m no fan, but cut the guy a break. It’s not like he asked to get sick.

Must be fundraising time. Dr. Gargano told him to wake up.

I wonder if the people of New Hampshire and Iowa have missed him.

Hate to kick a guy when he’s getting up from being down, but the only difference his being sick made was that, for once, he actually had a good excuse for not paying attention to his job. Now that’s he’s out of the hospital, we’ll rarely see him in the state again. Luckily, right now, there’s no big crisis for him to ignore (a crisis being defined as something out of the ordinary; a late budget wouldn’t count).

Yes, I know, in some ways us Dems should be grateful that the Republican governor we have is totally useless and ineffective. And, I often fell that way. But, every once in a while (say, there’s an impending transit strike) you actually would like to have someone govern, which i do not define as issuing DOA proposals to impress those who attend the Iowa caucus.

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
