A Liability in Missouri?

The Democrat running for Senate in Missouri is still avoiding Hillary like the plague.

Which says nothing positive about Hillary '08, however she does in Rochester.

Missouri is a purple state, so this says volumes. In New York, some left-liberals think Hillary is George W. Bush and support Tasini; in the heartland, people think she's Tasini.

McCaskill should run in upstate New York. Instant name recognition.

In a good part of the country the views of Hillary are reflective of the caricature that has developed of her by talk radio and Fox News. In such a circumstance it is no surprise that candidates in conservative states are running away from her. If she was the Democratic nominee the public have a chance to listen to her unfiltered and may be surprised to discover that she is a mainstream politician and not the left wing caricature they imagined. This is not to say that this will happen should she be the party nominee but is certainly a realistic possibility. A recent example: Kerry in 2004 after the GOP attack machine got going found himself down by 15 to 20 points after the Republican convention. After the first debate the race was tied. People saw that he was not what he was made out to be.
