In other words, a Republican who can't get the nomination.

It is absolutely absurd to say that John McCain is going to be a third party candidate. The man is the anti-choice darling of the Right who just voted to make Bush's deficit busting tax cuts for the rich permanent. When will people realize that Straight Talk is another term for bullshit?

McCain is the kind of independent leader we need.
Imagining Mike Bloomberg trying to speak about foreign policy makes me cringe.
1. You can say a lot of things about McCain but "darling of the Right" is not one of them.
2. Bloomberg has ruled out a run - believeably so.
3. The deck is stacked against third party candidates - ballot access and no federal subsidies. Not to metion being called spoiler. Highly unlikely.
McCain may not yet be "the Darling of the Right" but he is working hard on it, sucking up to the likes of Jerry Falwell. He knows the only way he can get the Republican nomination is by getting the wingers on his side. He continues to get a free ride from the press, being referred to as a "moderate." He is not moderate, he is an anti-choice conservative, and he is a panderer, and all that "straight talk" stuff is just complete crap.
He won't run as an independent, but we had all better be scared if he manages to pander his way to the Republican nomination.
